When nightingale fell silent
I find your act fair, Nightingale, It’s fair, ye fell song-less silent, Fair, should your voice no more regale, I find your act fair, Nightingale, Who can in such noise perform well? When raucous frogs relentless rant, I find your act fair, Nightingale, It’s fair, ye fell song-less silent. _________________________________ Triolet | 20.11.2018, revised July 2023| song, nightingale Poet’s note: Nightingales (Kokils or Koyals in India) begin to sing right from Spring. But after monsoon rains, they are heard less and less. Why? The poet puts on his cap of imagination and finds the answer himself. With a few showers the land softens, and frogs come out from hibernation to fill the air with their raucous mating calls. And koyals fall silent in this cacophony. The poet appreciates this act of koyals.
