Mascara Woes
Mascara smudged – through the tears I see the rumbling truth being preached By silent prayers, gentling peace… Doubting the whispers of yesterday’s dream, I fall to my knees, murmuring – tender Feelings bleeding through veins filled with Temptations, exposing the distractions – Little things, simplicity spilling from the windows, Panes squeaky clean and sparkling from The memory of hands swiping away the filth, The pride and the jilted guilt, shame Overburdened prayers…. Mascara smudges, through dewlike slits Promises of the past arousing the flow of tears, The melancholic growth, pouring out yearnings, Longing for the light – the undemanding, casting shadows Through the heart, the spirit, the soul’s Kiss, a wish falling from the stardust night, Smearing grief over the definition of hope, Piercing through the darkest dread, never doubting The dreams being fed by ghosts, haunting Poignant history, hated and evocative, Like the genius found playing with hearts Who know laughing, trembling songs, Tunes, refrains, rhythms… Its one moment of harmony and three times The noise, tumults of risk erasing the calm, Still, like a prayer – a piece of tomorrow In the lines of a story who believes, who sees The wonder of leftover feelings, bleeding Blending into the past, like grace – freeing A lifetime of music, poetry, reasons for this Moment, this time, this blessing – Hopeful like love yet hopeless like a skeptic, Suspicious and breathing fogs of endless Indifference, uncertainty and hesitating Through the moon’s colorless glow, Splendid and spotless, like the miracle Roaring with blistering wishes… Mascara spoiled by the waltz, dancing Like fireflies – sprinkled with light, Soft and vibrant, holding thoughts through The night, glorious, glistening, hearts Rising to meet the challenge from afar, Confronting yesterday and meeting a moment Too weary, too old, too quiet and too doubtful To be a part of the whimsical palliating Joy, the love that comes to those who realize It is in the doing, not the words spoken – The doing tells the whole story, doing is what Knows the promise will become the gift Love that never dies… Love that never dies, rubbing away the smudges With hands who held onto hope long after All hope was gone – hanging on with tears, moist On the spirit, long past the day when this feeling Meant that the former things are gone… In tears, they linger on…. In tears, they linger on and on Mascara smeared, running down long forgotten Hearts… hearts who resemble the times Before pride colored the feelings in black, replaced The music with lonely left behind by vanity, Poured out on the soul who is overdue, dirty And forgotten… Now humble, tears invite a spark, a flicker From yesterday… dancing through the tears, Glistening like stars on the night, yet these stars Are mere memories come to life inside The heart who knows – these mascara woes
