A Change of Fortune
I was an invaluable bank teller, loving peaceful life and daisy blue sky days, Like yellow sun warming sweet seasons, inducing vibrant, natural displays. I left for pleasant work every day, with a determined and practical purpose; And I was happy in my job thoroughly, as colorful clowns at a golden circus. My friends and I would lunch together, like milky stars gathered in the sky, And we laughed at the mellow sunshine, like wind will sometimes, going by. My family passed in and out of rose hours, like moon's hide and seek ways, To the music of warm, eternal summer, and emerald nature's many essays. I lived in the house of roaring, turquoise sea, where skies were yellow tinted, At the edge of a creamy, sandy beach, and seagulls squawked every minute. Nearest neighbors visited in straw hats, casting elongated, purple shadows, Bearing news of a ripened, redbird day, like buttercup news from meadows. The sandy coast was lined with red pine trees, where the golden birds sang; And brought pleasure to the listener, akin to the hour church bells last rang. Scarlet gold summer was in mountains afar, as butterflies toured the world; And gemmed dragonflies beat gossamer wings, sunup to moonlight pearled. Yellow glimmerings filled changeless days, until livid sunset found the moon; And purple, misty haze mystery, found a many-faceted, celestial commune. I walked on the blanched beach one balmy day, in warm bliss of jade years; And near the shore, I found a lucky penny, like when rose suddenly appears! A true optimist, I believed in life's magic, like colored magic of falling leaves; So, I shined the penny and made a charm, like hope peach dawn conceives. I wore my charm each talkative day, as orioles and redbirds uttered, singing; And my luck began to improve abruptly, like cricket and frog sounds mingling. One day I won $500,000 in a lottery, and my heart was singing with redbirds. And knew I was set for subsequent life, like seasons fruitful time remembers. I went on an extended vacation, as the vivid stars when they're not peeping; And soaked up sunshine and magic, like willows, when they are not weeping. I didn't have further outstanding good luck, but that stroke was all I needed, For I had security and a shiny new car, like moonglow once sun has receded. I have grown much wiser with the years, and I realize luck is fair and honest; And graces lives once conditions are favorable, like the blooms rain promised. Yet I still keep my pretty lucky penny, along with valued cherished memories, As comets leave a silvery trail of stardust, to drift along glimmering galaxies!
