Fragrant Families
I was a skillful, amiable nursery worker, cultivating blooms in a greenhouse, Like feverish and fragrant blooms, often grown in redbird's green treehouse. Hours were spent sowing seeds, adjusting conditions, and also and pruning, As June full moon nights await dawn, in utter hush as blooms are swooning. It was a profession that I really loved, like milky stars that cling to darkness, Or clingy, blooming ivy's mysterious travels, pursued in verve and calmness. Friends dallied among the dahlias, lavishing golden hours away, like summer, And we called each other ofttimes, in those beauty days, each one a stunner! My close-knit family was always there, like topaz bluebirds of pure, balmy air, Reconvening in the place of precious emeralds, in gold, sunshine savoir faire. How I wished to see all of the world's flowers, but time was always too short, Like purple sun journeying partway into night, before it must suddenly abort. I lived in the house of vivid daydreams, with sunshine views from the porch, Where rare, hued flowers loved to gather, as stars, in creamy moon's course. The street I resided on was still and pleasant, like marbled halls of a library, And the wide sidewalks were cobbled, lined with storied homes, very pretty. My sweet neighbors were all sunshine patriots, wearing dazzling smiles fair, At pretty garden parties or barbeques, as glad butterflies off to somewhere. Orange sun had come close for summer, and dragonflies constantly droned, And the joyous, yellow warblers chirped, when the prevailing winds moaned. A sky of colors allied with sympathetic clouds, all through the golden hours, And different shades of many hues, repeated often, in order and in reverse. One starry night, long past the gloaming, in vibrant sleep, dreams invaded, As sweet childhood we remember, when pure magic of fairytales persuaded. Then a dream came true within a dream, as I saw all of the world's flowers, Ranged as per each family; stock, alyssum and candytuft, in beauty powers! Then I frolicked in spring tulips and daffodils, grape hyacinths with daylilies, Before rhododendrons, azaleas and heather, and I adored those spicy series. I saw marigolds, mums, zinnia and aster, and my knowledge grew so easily, When I saw petunias and million bells, like pretty summer come too speedily. Later, I woke in a pink sunrise morning, and felt a deep sense of satisfaction, Like one who's gone all round a lovely world, and seen its utmost attractions. Noble families are incredibly wonderful, whether animal or human or flower, For identities are clearer when they stand together, having beauty and power!
