Oh What a Day In the Old
Oh what a day in the old, The African sun rises, shining bold, Father leaves at 5am, to tap palm wine, Mother goes to the farm, to make it shine. The children wake up as the birds chirp, And chatter while they wear their school shirt, With bare feet, they walk to school, Under the shade of trees, they learn the rule. Oh, what a day in the old, When family was everything, and love was bold, When hard work brought happiness and pride, And life was simple, yet so full inside. Food is cooked on an open fire, The aroma fills the air with desire, As the day gives room to the night, Only the fires and bush lamps show light. Children would play in the moonlight, With no worries or fears in sight, Running and chasing, with joy in their hearts, Creating memories that would never depart. Oh what a day in the old, Simple and pure, with hearts made of gold, The family, with love all around, Where messages were passed via smoke and sounds. The village was peaceful and serene, With its lush green fields and streams, And the people lived in harmony, With nature, and their community. The women would gather, to cook and clean, And share their stories, with love so keen, They'd laugh and sing, and dance around, And create a bond, that would forever abound. Men would come back from their work, With tired bodies, and spirits that lurk, They'd sit and rest, and share their day, And be grateful for the life, that came their way. Oh, what a day in the old, When the village was alive, and stories were told, When people knew their place, in the world so grand, And lived in harmony, with nature's hand. The night would come, with stars so bright, And the family would gather, with love so tight, They'd share their dreams, and hopes so high, And thank the heavens, for the day gone by The day ends with lessons learned, From the elders, they were earnt, With gratitude in their hearts so pure, They rest their heads, happy and sure. Oh what a day in the old, Families bonding, and love that was told, Days so different from those of today, Filled with nostalgia, wishing they could stay. But times have changed, and progress made, Though memories still vividly stayed, Of a simple life, with joys untold, Oh what a day in the old.
