Seeing Beauty
I'm falling asleep everywhere Should I sit for a moment As night time is wakeful So, sofa, cinema, garden chair I've drifted off for a moment or an hour Yesterday I was a passenger So fell asleep I got a descriptive account Via the kindness of my own child (Haha you had your mouth open) It's hard sleeping sitting up, don't judge However, it reminded me of a beautiful thing The first time I went on a plane with my then boyfriend I possibly at my peak as goth girl aged 19 Fell asleep on the plane (mouth open, ridiculous and embarrassing) But my boyfriend said "While you were sleeping, I saw sun set and the moon rise through the window, but you sleeping is still the most beautiful thing I've ever seen" I think I laughed and called him a chancer It was perhaps said with sincerity though, but I've always stamped all over compliments The nice lingering moment is, now if I fall asleep like that, I can remember his words I've been thinking about seeing beauty when the aesthetic is flawed recently In an aged parent, where their delicate features are almost too beautiful to gaze at Then I'm reminded of my other daughter who loves telling me how lovely I look I came home from being away overnight She ran to tell me I was beautiful (I'd left the house looking glam but my friend had demanded an early morning return so I had undergone unglamming alongwith no sleep as my also beautiful friend snored) As she ran towards me, saying "you look be..." She slowed to not reach me and tell me "I think you'd better put your contact lens in or something" Is this a poem? I don't know... But my daughters are beautiful And apparently the little one looks just like me That's a compliment I can take as I've no doubt she's more beautiful than any celestial event
