Transcending the Superficial
Picture me, This is where I am at. In one hand, a glass half full; the other, tapping my finger on my knee. The tie around my neck is loose, I ain't so prim or proper. In your eyes, I am, however, To those around me, I am not. I do not belong here, You and I knew this as soon as we walked in. For now, we've departed ways. I am guessing hellos and small talk are on offer. Yeah, I can fit in if need be, False smiles and laughs, Flashing the bright lights. I would rather take your hand to dance, Rather see your eyes than stand with these egotistical farts. Made myself smile, what is the importance? .....That's for another time. Head down, shouting out for those who may see, My awkwardness isn't a hand in the face, It's for anyone strong enough to break. I'd welcome anybody, To thyself be true. Again, smiling to myself, Then you walked in. Oh, how I've been transported to another place. You laugh, from the get-go, you knew. You are my rescuer, You are my grace.
