King Creole
In nineteen thirty five, in the eighth of January His kingship first saw light in Tupelo, Mississippi Under the Capricorn, there he met the sun shining The rising Sagittarius graced the light of his beginning Somewhere in the ghetto, he was raised and learned to sing In the fierceness of the storm, he learned hard to spread his wing In the darkness of the day, he learned to live and learned to fight But it was in his music that he saw his brightest light Where the saddle of his horse was then waiting, wild and free He rode on to find his fate in Memphis Tennessee Never did he know that one day, he would be king He climbed the ladder to his throne in his fair days of spring Heartbreak hotel, his fate riddled with spell All shook up, King Creole, the sky had served him well Aloha from Hawaii, the whole world had seen his charm Viva Las Vegas, the world embraced him tight and warm But wise men always said that only the fools rush in The rising of his name was as fast as world in spin The tolling of the bell turned the summer into fall Bright star fell from the sky that brought gloom in hearts of all A dusk in time, in summer's fall, the whole world was all in daze In the blowing of the wind, a lonely tune had come to craze The darkness of the night eclipsed the brightness of the day In the absence of his queen, the mighty king had come to lay Many years since he passed, his greatness still holds his crown Time esteems the sage of reign, his name gleams in dusk and dawn In the bleak of his absence, his songs didn't cease to earn For, his kingdom always stays in the loving hearts that yearn May 13, 2023 A Brian Strand Premiere No 1217 Poetry Contest (3rd place) Sponsored By: Brian Strand
