Forgotten Stars
How lonely distant stars must be Unnoticed by people looking down Waiting for blue skies to turn dark Waiting for stars gazers to show I wait for Venus to comfort me I wait for Orion's glow to gird me For constellations taking backstage For ancestors hidden by veils Are they as bereft as me below? Do they have planets to adore? Only the brightest divas are steadfast Still shining above our iridescence Still shaming our proud city lights Most are now hidden from view The few and lonely still shine on us Ever patient in the Milky Way true Are there beings like me alone? Seeking stars that blink with life Find us in our nighttime commotion My mind loses gravity at the thought Orbits where Hubble's gaze is clear Exiled to stare into the unknown Seeking the faintest constellations Breathless across the void Lost in progress’ cancer we are blind Above the shimmering summer air I reach for lovers hidden Misplaced pinpricks on a canopy Worlds hopelessly unseen Above our brighter cell phones We forgot what our ancestors saw When morning opens the curtain I wait for the heavens on the dark side I search for you during the day Connect us our dim diva supernova I hunger for incandescence like you Go inside and turn on the lights My phone beckons me to turn away Hoping someone will notice
