The Haunting
"The Haunting" What happened was a crime in more ways than one who can understand the mind of a recidivist twisted, calculating in this story, there is more than one, the night of a thousand cutting knives the turn of the blades piercing deep the heart is blind under gaslight and yuletide toasts black sheep and mistletoe the poison delivered a hearty slaughter in cornered solitary confinement dissolving through the floor there, the smiling courtiers succubi and incubi enablers enabling the blood spilt like ripe bordeux on life torn carpet the stain forever ingrained there, the other side, avoiding all, wearing a star like a sheriff some kind of righteous priest some blue-blood royal highness the shining Devil’s Advocate a harmless friend to all, the kindest betrayal then, the murder of a profile, most noble and innocent at best, the worst? the theft of purpose, a unique love severed, a kidnapped soul bought and manipulated, its lineage disenfranchised thrown to covetous acquisition a crown stolen, never worthy worn, worn wrong that slipping halo, by hungry thief erasing its rosy golden tint the other’s now lacklustre fading with its footprints singular bones bleached away never one, but two lives broken buried, hidden away, ears and eyes closed embalmed shut to ignorant taunting hearts eaten by marauding monsters the bitter constant rain of tears never goes away ghosts for the haunting then, one day, in that lost place the Bardo, the door closes, another opens - death is now a fanciful notion this is how banshees are borne wailing warriors battling the hardest war in most creative ways not necessary are spells or ominous potions to eviscerate daemons and their bad omens to stake claim to take back a home stolen the lighter protagonist departs the darker shadow moves on through the gate through boundless barriers through the bricked up walls - witness a will surpassing murder something different and darkly beautiful is now most certainly evolving from blood and water living tokens are taken as a bless'ed unblessed panacea for the suffocating assuming novel identities transfiguration is both frightening and liberating (LadyLabyrinth / 2023)
