Jumble
*Not sure my relaxed attitude to rhyme and form is passable in this one, but I enjoyed writing it :) * I've always loved to look through the jumble Sorting the treasure from the trash As a child I attended jumble sales Deciding the things I'd exchange for cash Now I adore charity shops Sorting through items that vastly vary I imagine where I'll go in each unique item Lost in all the dreams where I'm punk rock or faerie Taking what's discarded and wearing to parties Getting complimented and shining with glee I love my bargains and unusual finds But I love it when I can say, it only cost 50p I'm sure there's more to my sorting through rails Looking at what items have fallen out of grace I find I reminisce, my mind wanders through the ages Remembering some or other now lost person or place The jumble of clothes that someone grew too fat or too thin for Or sadly died and people donated the windfall The surplus of those that buy too much of the same thing Allows me to live out dreams on a shoestring The magical jumble of lost and found As we tumble through life without feet on the ground Scooped up from time to time and loved anew Replenish the soul, restoration of value Then there are those volunteering their time For the charities dear or to keep loneliness at bay Worthy recipient of my kind words and coins Exchange marks an improvement on everyone's day So keep the jumble, sort don't sling There's joy in saving and putting order to things It's saving on landfill, clothing the poor Giving purpose, creating dreams and a whole load more Through the jumble I found identity At a price I could afford Expressing complex desires to be bel esprit And creating a teeny tendancy to hoard Writing Challenge - ''J'' Words - Poetry Contest 4th March 2023 Sponsored by: Constance La France 4th Place
