Closer To Fine
my garden in a Spanish town is overgrown with weeds due to lack of time and purpose one thing that grows is beautiful lemons too many to make lemonade for me and my wife when life overburdens motivation is lacking and the word seems to be under-whelming the trowel appears too small for the lot my wife lover best friend and soulmate is at least as depressed as I am a new situation life threatening to a degree for in the past we have been taken turns with our mental afflictions in Spanish they say media naranja the other half of the orange for the expression ‘better half’ we both feel that the other is the better one but can agree upon that neither of us is complete therefore the poet is half an orange quite ironic with all those lemons on the trees yesterday I used the phrase ‘closer to fine’ which I had never knowingly done before and she played me the song with that title by the Indigo Girls ‘well darkness has a hunger that is insatiable and lightness has a call that’s hard to bear’ all I wish for both of us is to be closer to fine how and when ‘there is more than one answers to these questions pointing me in a crooked line’ the song advises to take life less seriously and to seek less source from some definitive life is not always a laughing matter but music and poetry help a lot as the nib scribbles and the song rings in my soul 15th February 2023
