Deja Vu
"She has been here before" They said on meeting me Strange as I was just days old From there on in I've watched and predicted Occasionally meeting others Who have been here before Sometimes running a parallel path to mine I can't quite grasp the thoughts and memories To know whether this is experience Or repetition Do I know how this all plays out Have I repeated this life or just a life There's a wisdom to recognising other souls Whose journey is light and lifting And avoiding those heading downwards Déjà vu 'already seen' It's a little jolt To say Stop Think how this played out last time You are at a fork in the road Choose wisely I'm halfway through this round Responsible for other souls I know I've been the recipient Of some pay it forward debts Which means sometimes It feels like I have no choice Obligated to try and help another Over the line I like helping, but only when it suits me It's a fundamental flaw for this round I've already seen But it doesn't always give me strength to change I implicitly know Have an overwhelming knowledge That I've failed in the future Strange, as a survey would Likely give me good odds Of ticking all the boxes Maybe it's past repentance I recall Maybe it's future failure But it's déjà vu Something missing Something overlaid All the pieces and the players Look up, for that split second And say "I felt something" 13th February 2023 Deja Vu Poetry Contest Sponsored by: Unseeking Seeker 1st place
