Tiny Bursts of Pride
Pivotal moments From when I was a tiny girl In my first year of school That drift through my thoughts Like the apple sticker that Was my peg at nursery school And feeling proud of having Remembered which was mine "It's the apple!" I'd shout pleased as punch The day I got new red shoes The teacher sat me on her knee She said they were "truly lovely" And I believed they might be The best shoes in the world There was a strange game Of carrying a barrel to the top of the hill Getting in And rolling down I loved it and Was delighted by That days achievement Another day The plastercine was out I asked what I should make The aim was to roll it into a ball Tiny hands tried and succeeded Triumph! Today is a day To select the joyful memories Of the little girl in 1981 Who might have picked a nettle twice Just to be sure it was a bad idea But also held the future in her hands And still does For now
