Abandoned
A thousand cells A thousand windows Eyes staring into the empty wasteland Which used to be filled with humming life With pleasurable noise and peacefulness Closed mouth but open ears Listening for signs of life Its guards gone It stands alone Parts of torn skin falls to the ground Lying there for more years yet to come Its many heads stand tall Reaching into the sky Watching for stirring life Dead grass and dead life surrounds it far and wide Loneliness creeps through its eyes Crawling around its empty halls Hanging in the air with no place to spare Emptiness fills it from top to bottom Feelings it has never in its young days experienced. In its days of old People came and left Filling it with happiness to know that so many cared To feel their warmth and happiness When they dwelled in its cells and halls Up and down In and around They would walk as they spoke of admiration Of the way it was built But now those days are gone No more people No more life Not even a little mouse in sight The wind howls at night And the stars smile down But they’re nothing like the music and life it used to hear and see Nothing fulfills its desires anymore On top of a lonely hill It stands alone Waiting for the day that it shall rise again into someone’s care The day it shall have life again Or the day it falls tumbling to the ground Like an old frail lady whose time has come for her to leave this world
