The Fiddler and the Frog
The rules of the comp I'll barely read Because I am a poetic fiddler freed I leap about from contest to contest Clueless why the sponsors unimpressed I'm confident I'll find my niche Get it right without being pastiche I can't leapfrog to the top I'll just croak out another flop Levity, levity I'll look that up now Ooh lucky this entry he might allow But what if I get the dreaded N/A? I'll deal with that another day Hmm I need another froggy mention So it's clear that my intention Was to hit the brief right on the nail No point entering if only to fail Eek I haven't checked the grammar But poetic license has more glamour Did I mention fiddlers play jigs? I'm sort of trying, I really hope he twigs Let's get some serious winning lines Musicality and motion entwines... Fiddler plays the notes he knows And the frog like the jig and the prose This serious attempt comes to a close It's fate no-one really knows It might be good despite the jolly Or perhaps one long wasted folly The Fiddler And The Frog Poetry Contest 28 January 2023 Sponsored by: craig cornish
