The Killing of Yesterdave
I stand before the mirror, staring at my face, A reflection of a life that's been lived in this place. But as I look upon myself, I know that I must change, For the David that I am today, can no longer stay the same. It's hard to let go of the past, to kill who I once knew, Though the memories are so sweet, still I outgrew But in order to move forward, to reach for something new, I must be willing to sacrifice, the old me, to pursue. The need to preserve oneself, is strong and deeply ingrained, But in the end, it's necessary, for growth to be attained. So though it may be painful, and I may shed a tear, I must be cold and calculated, and let go of YesterDave, dear. For what got me here, will not be enough, to take me to the next stage, I must be reborn, and let go of the past, and turn the page. So I'll take a deep breath, and I'll make that fateful cut, And though it may hurt, I'll know that in the end, it's worth it, the rebirth.
