The Fiddler and the Frog
THE FIDDLER AND THE FROG A lady frog lived in a pond, though she didn’t live there by choice. For, unlike most of her species, she had a beautiful voice. And one day, as she practised, singing notes so high, A talented violinist just happened to pass by. He played a Stradivarius that had a beautiful tone And, just like the lady frog, he too lived all alone. He stopped and introduced himself and said he wondered whether She’d like to form a duet and tour the world together. And so they practised every day, morning, noon and night, Then won a TV talent show; their future was looking bright. They toured the world as promised, with many a curtain-call Until they finally made it to the Royal Albert Hall. As they finished playing, the audience went wild. They took a bow together; he turned to her and smiled. He leaned across and kissed her and, much to his surprise, She turned into a princess, right before his eyes. It’s a complicated story, that I’m sure you know quite well, It all involves a wicked witch and a very nasty spell. And so the couple married on a sunny day in June. The princess paid for the wedding, so she always calls the tune. 20th January 2023 The Fiddler and the Frog poetry contest Sponsor - Craig Cornish
