The Club Drill
Hand picked for agreeable body attitude and height, Eleven boys carry twenty two clubs to move, First with the right arm club we swing a full circle drill; Divided we practice these runs first right and then left. Conduct the twists as simple rounds became complex swirls, Ease the arm to guide move the club behind shoulder, Contract each elbow prop as wrist play in small circle, To merge into big orbs as the elbow expands. Smoothing out the jerks we learn to master the feat, Coordinate both hands together without the clicks, Train to jog to the field into spaced positions, Armed warrior clubs resting beside our straightened necks: On the sports day nervous as squirrels in finals, The whistle blows and we perform without a hitch, Complete our show of excellence without a glitch, Tow the line dripping in the heat and cooling sweat. Photos as clustered hands holding out clubs to drill; Our well spaced clubs display full circle; audience in thrill: Picture prompt:- http://www.records.nsw.gov.au/state-archives/digital-gallery/our-sporting-heritage/school-days/images-1/Cleveland.jpg/image
