Beautiful Blue Jay
He was a beautiful bird with feathers bright white and cobalt blue He happily chirped his songs while perched at the feeders every day Often spotted high in the oak tree, squawking until his new day debut When he appeared all the other birds became quiet and often flew He wanted to be king of the feeders, aggressively pushed birds away He was a beautiful bird with feathers bright white and cobalt blue One day his mate landed beside him, with light feathers a muted hue She was jumping and squawking, like a fancy mating dance of play Often spotted high in the oak tree, squawking until his new day debut He danced along beside her their feather’s entangled in a mating ado Her muted feathers spotted feeding until she flew to their nest to stay He was a beautiful bird with feathers bright white and cobalt blue Feeders were abandoned one day as a cold storm passed through The birds were nestled away in nests as winds made the trees tops sway Often spotted high in the oak tree, squawking until his new day debut His mate fed her tiny fledglings, feathers brightening as they grew He came to visit the feeders for years until one day he’d gone astray He was a beautiful bird with feathers bright white and cobalt blue Often spotted high in the oak tree, squawking until his new day debut Did not place in contest: Third Person Villanelle, judged 11/23/22 Contest: Writing Challenge- X'd Poems Second Chance Poetry Contest Sponsor: Constance La France
