He's In a Dark Place, But Not For Long
November and December, his favorite time of year; those other months, stuck lonely by himself. The darkness, isolation, just amplified his fear; oh, how he longed to be upon the shelf! The glorious night prowling amidst the children’s toys - joy rides with Barbie in the pink corvette... The felt allowed his tiptoe without making much noise, although not having feet brought some regret. He longed to sneak among them, give Fido’s ear a puffing, although he hardly ever teased the cat. That time he blew in her ear, she ripped out all his stuffing, the upside being that he’s not as fat. So in the dark, he sniffs - the signal’s pumpkin spice; he salivates and scarce contains himself. Ten months here in the closet? Well worth the sacrifice for glory days as elf up on the shelf! ————- for the November or December Quatrain Poetry Contest sponsored by Caren Krutsinger written on 11/9/22
