A Note In the Wind
One windy afternoon as I was walking, a gentle wind suddenly caressed my face, like telling me that everything would be alright. And as I closed my eyes to feel deeply such gentleness, I felt a familiar feeling that I last felt many years ago, which prompted me to look back to my past. So I stopped and looked up to the heavens. And somewhere among the clouds, there lied the reflection of the memory, of the unconditional love of my grandparents. I saw my grandmother picking grains with her sickle, so we would have something to fill our belly. I heard my grandfather telling wonderful stories while cooking, despite of being half body paralyzed. I heard them both singing lovely songs, just to pacify my troubled heart, so I would not worry too much about what tomorrow may bring. All the love that they gave me, despite of the toughness of life, echoed like waves of gentle breeze that pacified my troubled mind. And even if the times were tough and the horizon was mostly covered by dark clouds, I mustered all the courage to go on. For everytime I feel like giving up, the wind brings the memory of my beloved grandparents, reminding me to be strong. How sweet it is, and so empowering to remember, the love of those who had less, but gave their all. October 29, 2022 A note in the wind poetry contest (3rd place) Sponsored by: Charles Messina
