The Cold Light of Day
I watch them come, I watch them go By night and some by day Learning all they need to know To keep their fears at bay These humans fear the ‘everything’ That they don’t understand The dark, the past, the future And the ‘anything unplanned’ But they don’t know the half of it For if they ever did They’d lock their doors and stay inside And some would flip their lid All they need to do is look And if they could believe They'd see the truth of me And know their learning did deceive But then they’d call me fairy tale Or horror movie prop And some might call me fancy dress And then their hearts would stop But human brains just white me out And they don’t see me here Unlike the figments of their minds That in the night they fear I dwell in this cold light of day Few humans dread the light My pantry might be sparse for me Were I to hunt at night I watch them come, I watch them go I watch them stand in line Today I’ll let the quick ones go The slow ones? They're all mine
