(His Version of Break My Heart) I have each piece, each shattered part of your heart that I broke in two, I feel every ounce of pain, every emotion, just as you I would never take this beautiful treasure you bestowed to me and slam it against a wall, I don’t wish to bear witness to one single tear that falls But in a sordid way I guess that you could say that I did exactly this, because of me the heart that once beat within your chest for me, it no longer exists You took it apart piece by piece and you handed it over to me, asking me to love it like before, to give you the strength to breathe As I take this piece the one that anticipated my call, I want you to know it took everything in me to hold myself back from doing so, it took my all It’s not that I didn’t want to, I wanted more than anything to speak with you, but my hands were tied at that moment there was nothing I could do I know that you believed in me, sadly you’re one of the few that ever did, and how did I repay you? Sadly, this was it You believed that I was special, you saw something within me no one ever had, you wanted to lift me up to reach the stars, all you wanted was to hold my hand As I take this piece that is inscribed with words to you, I once said, I hold it alongside this piece that speaks words written by you that I can’t get out of my head I guiltily take this piece because it once made you smile, it is intermingled with this one, that I made you feel worthwhile I don’t want to take this piece that represents you missing me every day, because there is nothing that I can do my love to take the pain away I can’t take this piece that longs to hear my voice, believe me I would speak nothing but beautiful words to you forever if it was my choice I already keep this piece of yours that listened as our hearts spoke to one another, as I was more than enamored with you too then, you were my lover I take this piece that you give to me vowing that you wanted nothing but my time, but my love that was the one thing I couldn’t give to you because it wasn’t mine I already hold a piece of this one, I hold it tight to remember when, long ago I lost my way, and you brought me back from the darkness then I hold this piece to remember your selfless sacrifice, the one that we both made as one although deep down we wanted to fight To fight for our love, for the injustice of it all, as I clasp my hands around this piece that hears your cries, yours calls I take this piece and I want you to know I wish that I could return to you, and that I still crave your love as well and yearn for it too I hold this piece and cherish it because of the selflessness it entails, but at the same time it crushes me and makes me feel like hell This piece makes me remember all the dreams I promised to make come true, and this piece, oh this one, that I made you feel complete, it just tears me in two I take this piece and my love I do remember you and will for the rest of time, this piece is enraptured inside of my heart, the vision of those beautiful, gray eyes This piece I hold that says you feel as though I did nothing but tell you lies, my love that couldn’t be further from the truth, with you there was no disguise I take this piece and I know you truly only wanted me for me, and my love I feel the same, that is why I am down here crying now on my knees I’m holding this piece knowing that I crushed you then, that you always knew we could never be, sadly, I was the one who didn’t know then, I still believed I will never burn this piece, that is something that I could never do, I know you don’t want this piece back, but please try to see the truth I have taken this piece and I wish that I could take it, and do as I want, I have taken this piece, but my love please know, I know I’m at fault I have taken this piece and believe me I do miss you, there was no need to give away a piece of your heart, to ask that, I promised you back then that I always would, and I would never take those words back I take this piece and I pray that you know I have never forgotten you nor could I ever let this be, I can’t take this piece and bury it with the rest of you as you told me I did so bluntly I take this piece, but I want you to know I truly wish that we could be, I take this piece and pray that it speaks to you somehow, that you can hear me I take this piece and I know that you would have loved me for all of time, and my love, this piece, just know that your memory constantly runs through my mind I take this piece knowing that I broke you and I take all the blame, I take this piece knowing that you believe you’re a regret to me, but you’re not my love, I’m so ashamed I take this piece as I took so much of you long ago when you believed that I moved on with my life, I never moved on from you, I just kept moving forward trying to survive I take this piece and I wish for happiness to fill the broken parts of me, but the only one that can make that happen is handing over her broken heart that stopped its beat I take this piece and I hold it so delicately like a shard of glass in my hand, I take this piece and I remember you; I feel you within me, I truly do understand I take this piece and I know that your love for me was true, and I take this piece and it does fill me up inside in the ways that you used to I take this piece and just hold it remembering when, and I take this piece and pray deep down I will see you once again I take this piece and please know I feel you deep within the depths of me, I take this piece and please know that you’re helping me to breathe I take every broken, shattered piece you have given to me, and I hold them in the palm of my hands, I want so much to put them back together whole for you, I wish to be a better man I take your broken heart, I have picked all the pieces up off the floor, and I do love your heart as much as I did way back then, long ago, before I take your broken heart and I lie it to rest with mine, because not only did I break your heart then, but I also broke mine.
