Broken Wishbone
Auspicious wedding games played by Indian bride and groom, Like finding names written on bride's orange vermilion bloom; Searching the hidden ring out of thick turmeric water, Or untying knots of bridal garments like a plotter...! Or the great fantasy Dragon Roar played by the Chinese, Conflict betwixt heroes and demons, the latter does freeze; Might not be exactly; yet, Broken Wishbone is a game; Every game is an entertainment. It could be the same...! Auspicious game joyfully played in Western dining hours, With birds skeleton men and women displayed their powers; Breaking wishbones (merry-thought) for good luck, as ritual, Spreading from Etruscan culture became habitual…! As playing any other harder-games players took their sides, Holding the given sides, they, pulled with wishes, like high-tides; The one broke perfectly well, felt as though his wish fulfilled, If both succeeded breaking their portions, lo, both got thrilled...! Symbol of power; potential; luck; good fortune; and hope; Possessing it, as greatest wealth, gave existence great scope; As jewelry, fashion and aesthetic designs gracious, Wishbones added charm of diamonds and gemstones precious...! 07 September 2022 Pick-A-Title, Vol 32 - Poetry Contest Sponsored by: Edward Ibeh
