I Am a Somebody
My grandmother wanted to be with god. The first time, I didn't think she was serious so I smiled and nodded. She said it more and more, each and every day. She says it louder and louder, wasting her breath away. It started to worry me how much she wanted to be with god. I didn't know what she meant. “What's so special about God?” I kept asking myself the same question over and over. I didn't understand, she told me I was her lucky charm; her 4-leaf clover. “What is something God could do that I couldn't?” I decided that I would impress my grandmother more. With trophies, certificates, ribbons, and awards. But it was always God she was asking for. So, I worked and worked, push everyday. I was up to my limit but I kept going anyway. All I thought was about how Me-Me would finally ask for me. This is my perfect victory! That's right! I finally won! God cannot Compete! I saw her body resting. “Is she asleep?" No... She wasn't breathing.... Her hands were still. I sat in my room Feeling sad and a shame. I was the reason she died. I am the one to blame. They told me not to feel that way. I couldn't help it. I looked at her face for a long time. But something wasn't right. It didn't stick I looked at her face a while more. I finally realized; it finally clicked. I was so busy trying to compete with God, I didn't hear her calling for me. Her voice was getting softer and softer everytime she called out my name. I was so focused on the game, I didn't notice the fade in her flame. She was calling in pain. Her only wish was wanting to be free. I couldn't free her from the pain even if I tried. There was only one miracle that was worthy to be her guide. God wasn't my competition, he was my grandmother's hope. She wanted him to take her home. I finally knew what she meant. But..... I was 4 hours away too late. She was already walking through heaven's gates. I'm sorry me-me for not being there when you need me. I heard a little sweet, yet confidence voice come from up and above say to me. I will never forget what that little voice said. “Remember, you are somebody.”
