My Dog
People come and people go, all alike unlike the snow. Smells, and skin, and laughter, and hair are lost upon the open air. My dog stays close her tongue is warm, fur so soft yet bones so sore. Her eyes are green like moss, and rot, they tell me things that she cannot. She's old and sweet this dog of mine, older than the lies of time. Teeth are clean and claws are sharp, I hold her close when it gets dark. And sometimes if I listen close, her heartbeat marches with my pulse. I think my dog and I are scared, of what I'll be when she's not there. She smiles like she knows the truth, the day will come her teeth get loose. I'll kiss her head and I will weep, the death of my dog sanity. Her heart will stop, the rage will start, the markings of the morning star. The tricks she taught I'll soon forget, and swallow her into my chest. I'll take the blade of blood and bone, and sacrifice what's left of home. Cut my skin and shed this soul, you took my dog. I'll take your throne.
