Brazen Faces
The procession is moving through the town, dressed in a long assorted gown, high and low vans crawling along the narrow street to join the parade in the other town. Cars of assorted color waiting in lines for hours, and I feel the blood rushing through my vein bringing on the heat in the third and fourth degree. It’s that funny feeling you get in your stomach when you are clinging on to something that wets your appetite and hunts you in the middle of the night . The moon with its brazen face hangs solemnly over the East beckoning you to hasten your steps as the water has reached the required depth. The trees are standing still, and she is waiting at the country mall; the music is bouncing in the skies and pretty girls dressed in beautiful colors showing off their legs and thighs, they dance to the rhythm and the amusing sound of the carnival beat, a beer in one hand and their sister holding the other hand The crowd went wild when the plump girls shake their sturdy behind, dancing as if they are in the club, everyone seems to be having fun it’s not over until it’s done, but all I know it will soon be done Ducks and chicken are running around and the mother goose is moving out of the town, her departure date is set and you have to pull down the bed and empty the room and pick her up before noon. You must take her to a safe place where she will spend the rest of her tumultuous days The horses are out of the barns and the pigs are running all over the farm, the animals have caught the strange fever and hens assemble in lines following the pecking order. All the roosters have left the roost and converge in the corner without shoes. Naked backs clinged to each other speaking in a language that is not proper and the cows gathered in the corner lamenting over their beautiful daughters. I saw her standing at the door looking beyond the shore, eyeballs moving to and fro looking for what I don’t know, I gazed at her from across the street watched the strong breeze pulling her hair and tossing it in different directions, as she raised her hand to pulled back her hair our eyes met and she shouted, “Sister I am over here”, she smiled and crossed the street and that’s how we meet,. Satisfaction gleamed in her eyes and she held my hand and said, “I have to get you out of here before he dies. She held my hand and we got into a car and left that place with the carnival blazing behind us and passion covering our backs.
