In a Whispered Voice
I looked out in a forest and the constellation Taurus, searching for some sign of He who made this world and you and me. I searched the fields that grew the grain and peered inside a drop of rain, trying to find the illusive Mind that made the universe, and time. I searched high hills and mountain peaks and dug down low to hear earth speak, about everything I was looking for but nothing opened wide the door. Then I looked inside a flower petal and atoms flying 'round in metals, and took to reading ancient history but only found more misery and mystery. Then I swam in waters deep where oceans end and sailors' sleep, then up again to sky and wind finding no answers, there again. I searched the sunshine and the shade and every blade of grass He made, and all the birds that I like best but nothing quenched my futile quest. Until I closed my eyes one night and prayed to Him to give me sight, to see his face and lift me up to give me strength and fill my cup. With all the faith as a child I had but lost along life’s winding path, until found again one prayer-filled morn in a whispered voice, I was reborn.
