Taken For Granted
I once took for granted my childhood when still too young to know, how time was fleeting and so misleading like a movie picture show. I'm older now but no wiser and sadly must convey, I still take too much for granted including work and play. I've taken for granted tin foil, tangerines, and trees, I've taken for granted gardens and grapes and even the air I breath. I've taken for granted friendships and faces from the past, and I've taken for granted God's graces, places, and countless questions I never asked. I've taken for granted this body and mind that can contemplate who we are, out here in the middle of the universe, third planet from a nearby star. And I've taken for granted apples, pears, pies, and plums, the blood in my veins, blue sky and rain, my fingers and opposing thumbs. I've taken for granted seeds I've planted and bugs I didn't much like, old cars I once owned and even a home, morning dew and daylight. Someday I might learn to be thankful for all these miracles that surround, but try as I might it's always a fight to be thankful for all that abounds.
