Love By Candlelight
In a modern world do you expect The lights to fail and plunge us all Into an abyss of darkness? So I light a candle, like days of yore, Pick up pen and paper; feel as if I'm walking In a heavy dank mist like a half blind man Searching, Searching Hoping. So in semi darkness, I sit alone. Dare I write about you? Imagine your twinkling eyes, Or should I close my eyes And sense your smell Of perfume, a mixture of Lavender and thyme? Darkness makes me restless. I move cautiously around the room. I peer out into the night, Through a window pane glazed with dew. An inky darkness greets me. But lo, up there, is it not a strange star Falling within the night? I gaze at the solemn beauty That brings back the simple joys, Just as the strains of an old song Echo within the corridors of my mind I silently pray and wish That you are here with me, That I may feel your velvet skin, Taste your luscious lips. I'll lay you slowly on my couch Kiss your shoulders bare, Experience in that starry night The pangs of angelic peace. Then I'll try to understand What you really find in me! For I mull and think: Do I deserve your love? Alas the lights are still out. And I am in the dark.
