Born To Thrive
"There's no normal. There's just life". Doc Holiday, Tombstone. Just yesterday, referring to a patch of hard times that he was experiencing of-late, my youngest son said to me, "It is so not normal". I then thanked him for introducing me to a movie we watched together more than a decade ago. The Hollywood movie was entitled, Tombstone. The hit movie was filled with great quotes so applicable to our everyday lives. I reminded him of a conversation between Doc and Wyatt. Wyatt mentioned to Doc that he needed a 'normal life'. Doc's reply was, "There is no normal. There's just life". It was a line that I never forgot, because it was in many respects the story of my life and the way I had to approach it. If we were to allow ourselves to be plagued by 'the lack of the fairness of life', or the abnormality thereof, we would forever be the worse for it. We did not create the world we live in nor the environment around us. But I hasten to say that God has equipped you and me with more than enough of what it takes, not only to survive, but also to thrive rather handedly. 070622PS This poem, Born to Thrive, was inspired by a poem I read entitled, "Unfair".
