Dead Roses
Dead Roses I will never buy you flowers my love No; those red long stem roses Cut before their prime Echo far too much of Universal bloom Halted For a mere space of wistful romance Flowering pride wilted in their delicate lives Will never express The pining romantic of your lips Even in their perfection Such blossoms are better left to Live I would rather see them faded Nurturing their seed And kissing promises of new bud openings Knowing they have paraded their beauties If only for a day No; I will never buy you roses my love And trade their beauty for yours Or even begin to compare their nimbus To the glory of your heart Or set them gathered in cold vases When the warmth of the earth Is a better place in my soul Dead, though they are shackled to the semblance Of life Does not portray the pounding of my heart With these delicacies of the eyes Though magnificent they are But needs be contrite If to capture your lustre they have tried No; my love I will not buy you flowers Though I love all their petaled wonders deeply I would rather see them As you Living freely And love them I do But I love nothing As well As I love You
