Common Sense Nonsense Part 2-06022022
I Some joke about the Lord's prayer taught to disciples in Matthew 6: 9-13 - "GIVE US THIS DAY OUR DAILY BREAD"- We trust God for heaven, but daily bread is my work and duty. Jesus wanted us to take EVERY CONCERN, WORRY, QUARREL to God or the Trinity. He could have taught His disciples to pray for a monthly supply of bread (so as to pray once a month for bread, only!) But there's surrender & wisdom in asking God's blessing for our earthly work & duties. The Ten Commandments are our duty as much as ones duty to spouse, lover, children, idols. II God helps those who help themselves! People quote this as gospel truth. Sorry - not in the Bible. But Colossians ( epistle) teaches: he who will not work, must not eat." Capt. John Smith used this verse to whip the infant Virginia Colony into shape (post-1607, America bound settlers were busy searching for gold & neglecting work related to building a fort & defences).
