The Albino Squirrel
There is a legend of an albino squirrel we were told years ago As kids we waited in the town park, hoping for it to show The legend is of a woman who buried her beloved cat on her land He was a white Persian, feisty and ornery but beautifully grand The woman was so heartbroken she died soon after her pet Known as the crazy lady in the dilapidated home most wanted to forget The woman had no descendants, and her house was soon destroyed Her land was sold and made into a park the townspeople enjoyed Many have reported while sitting on a park bench, they hear meows Then soon appears a large, feisty albino squirrel making a rouse Chattering and running along the bench and quickly disappears The albino squirrel has been seen in the town park for many years Legend is that the albino squirrel still visits the park every day Many come with bird seed, hoping to lure it out in some way Some visit the park late waiting to hear the loud meows at night Hoping to witness the infamous unique and treasured sight ( The inspiration for this poem is from my early morning walks with my dog. I have seen an albino squirrel on the same street for several months, a rare sight to see and one I enjoy every time!)
