Dan the Hero, Part Vi
...She was actually taken aback by that, by the casualness of the whole thing, was this the man who had snarled at her? The brute with such simple understanding? “Well you can go on, if you have questions, I was a bit surprised your sought me out, I though after last time you’d be upset, but both of us were stressed, things seem cooler now.” She just nodded at the words he did speak, for some reason didn’t bring out her phone, she found herself talking with no record, why she was doing this, she didn’t know. “I’ve not been settled since last we did meet, have a hard time believing what you said, how a man who is blessed with your power can buy into all the lines we’re fed?” “What line was I ‘fed’ that troubles you so? Do you not believe it does good to help? My dad always said there ‘is no perfection,’ but little improvements do a man well.” She laughed and said, “It can’t be that simple, besides, what you do is fight without end, there’s always people who will need more help, which means they’ll be calling for you again? “How can a smart men not see through that trap, and not seek to change it, strike at the root? What I see as right might be their despair. “Does this power I have give me the right to make another go against their will? Do I have the brains to remake the world because I have unmatched power to kill? “No matter what I did, some would be mad, when have groups of humans ever been synched? And the more I pushed, the more they’d resist, ending up in widespread chaos, I think.” She thought of this, realized he had a point, but shook her head, said, “So you just go quit? Give up thinking that you can make real change, shrug your shoulders and go along with it? “How do we bring about a better world, when the strongest think the whole thing’s hopeless?” As the pancakes came, Dan simply smiled, “I never said anything like that, miss...
