On Waves of Sorrow
While he slept his tears flowed softly there Across his cheeks onto the shiny satin pillow, Where once rested her head in peace so fair. In his dream he could hear a whisper mellow, As he remembered how her breathing waned Across his cheeks onto the shiny satin pillow. They no longer spoke of the trite or mundane Every precious word would be his to cherish, As he remembered how her breathing waned. Not a single utterance could he allow to perish Or be lost in the abyss of a dark tomorrow, Every precious word would be his to cherish. Deafening silence arrived on waves of sorrow, Nothing could be said to comfort his heart Or be lost in the abyss of a dark tomorrow. No way expressing loss of love can impart While he slept his tears flowed softly there, Nothing could be said to comfort his heart Where once rested her head in peace so fair. written April 29, 2022
