Empty Pride
Pride prolongs a fall when schemes drop into the dust. and though your heart is hurting your mind feeds on worldly lust. And when foolish plots fall apart and laughs become the means most tried. The shades of evening are drawn and closing, shadows hide your empty pride. A lift of the chin and a smile on the lips, a mask so easy to wear But a prideful heart creating a wreck, an almost impossible repair When treasures are won, then lost and two different worlds collide leading to a retreat to shadowed places , at least you can say you tried Your pride has caused so much pain with your stiff neck point of view. And though it's wrong you barge right on and another plan falls through. Dark highways leading to nowhere and no turn-around comes into view, But, the glitter of gowns and soft city-lights hide the truth from you. Laughter, jokes and grand apparel have covered many a tear. But pride trots out to judge the cost, you’ve been paying on, for years. With all those good days of fame, now lost, let your conscience be your guide. Your comforts lie in the moon’s dim glow where shadows hide your empty pride.
