Yes, I Met Alice
What if I , Saw a waist-coated white rabbit, Pass and disappear down a hole Would I think I was going quite mad Or would I want to follow him As he exclaimed I’m late! I’m late! For a very important date’………. Of course I would follow him, for I love adventure A challenge for me is a quencher, So, I followed As I half fell, half crawled down the hole, I saw a girl younger than me, She said come on quick, Down the hallway to a small door, We even found a key, Tried to open the door, but Oh dear, oh dear Neither of us could fit I fear, Alice offered her hand, I asked if this was her Wonderland, And so, we met. Little notes Alice found, eat me, Drink me, eat me, and so We grew and shrunk, As was the need, Alice demanded I do What she did, which I did and finally, we Got through the door, into A beautiful garden, drink me, eat me, But we had meanwhile cried and Shrunk in our own pool of tears Alice seemed to handle all like a pro, But I was truthfully riddled with fears Our pool of tears became a sea, I lost Alice but spotted her across The shore with the rabbit again Who had disappeared, and a mouse, I was so lost, I was fifteen but wanted My mom and dad, For suddenly I felt afraid and sad. The rabbit ordered Alice to get his things From his house, But had a message for Alice ‘drink me’ On a bottle, she grew and grew, , I rubbed my eyes was this true, I was witness to Alice’s famous tale Could relate it to my friends in detail, Felt proud, but told myself it’s a dream, Or so it would seem, But why did it feel it so real, Everything I could swear, portrayed itself , As the real deal! After Rabbit had a tantrum, animals threw Stones at Alice which became cakes She ate and ate and became small again Beckoned me to follow her into the forest, Where we met A caterpillar who sat on a mushroom With a hookah, but the two argued, the Caterpillar snubs Alice showing his disgust But before leaving told her parts of the Mushroom where he sat, could make Her grow or shrink, I just sat on the grass, I must think Seriously how I can get out of here, I had collected many a strange souvenir, Memories, which would be with me forever, I could not get my mind to put things together So muddled it all was, Oh whatever! Alice’s neck suddenly shoots Up, and a pigeon attacks her, he probably Thought she was a snake ready to steal Her eggs. Poor Alice, I thought her brave, for unknowingly Becoming a volunteer In pure fantasy land, a pioneer, And the heroine of Alice in Wonderland. Suddenly we find a duchess in her house Holding a baby that was squealing, a Cheshire Cat, and a cook, who emptied much pepper Into his soup, the Duchess rudely departed, To play croquet with the Queen and Alice was left holding the squealing baby, What happened next is strange, no maybe, Not actually, the baby turned into a pig! Returning to the forest, We find the Cheshire cat again, Who whilst grinning tells Alice that Everyone In this land, Including Alice herself, is mad, And directs her to the house of the March Hare, Then the caterpillar fades, so off we trot To this house where we find them, all three, The Mad Hatter, The March Hare, and The Door Mouse, Having tea, outside the house, Trapped in time, they were, Eternally having tea, But treated Alice without any courtesy, So Alice takes her leave, we return to the forest, Find a key to the door in the hallway, I must tell you from the beginning I feel All that has happened, is totally surreal! The queen and Alice begin a game of croquet, The croquet mallet is a flamingo, and poor Little hedgehogs the croquet ball. Suddenly the Queen calls for all Present to be executed, but it seems That the Knave of hearts Was in trouble for stealing the Queens tarts Alice is a witness to this trial, and then I really wanted to escape as Alice was Ordered by the Queen to be beheaded, She then grows taller, and more Confident and denounces her trial As nonsense and knocks the Queens army Aside, which she realized Were only playing cards, and as they fall upon Her, she screams and wakes up her head on her Sister’s lap, by the riverside. And I? Well I was sitting On a garden bench, I felt relief I shook my head in disbelief, I must have been day dreaming, For it was chilly, The sun no longer beaming, I was grateful as I Walked up our garden path, Who knows what would have Happened in the chaos of Wonderland’s aftermath! PS A few details have been left out as I wrote this poem from a somewhat different perspective.
