The Lost Commandments
When Moses came back down With his tablets and inscriptions He left some lying around With some critical prescriptions Continued at eleven Not to stop the count on fingers If you want to go to heaven Add these extra rules and stingers Further shalt and shalt-nots listed For avoiding castigation Or for peace at home insisted And domestic approbation Thou shalt listen with great care To She who must be obeyed You’ll be sorry if you dare Get it wrong, forgot, delayed Thou shalt not fret when accused For you’re wrong, you know you blew it Don’t attempt to be excused Hold your tongue or you will rue it Thou shalt close what should be closed And leave open what should be (Might not be what you supposed Don’t compound sin with that plea!) Thou shalt eat all food on plate Clean it up, leave not a jot You know it’s a crime to waste Get it down or sin, Mein Gott Thou shalt be prepared, don’t tarry When it’s time to gad about (‘Time’ defined is arbitrary She at door, already out) Thou shalt check thy post and messages The e-mails, even junk There could be one that takes presages No matter what you thunk Old man Moses’ outward bound Gave full guidance to a nation Though he took the long way round Till they reached their destination Had he not mislaid those stones Could have missed out so much strife Looking forward with smart drones Or just listening to his wife
