Whisper
I heard a whisper… In my dream last night, you've found another to hold Where the blind ones tossed and turned, lost in a labyrinth Your lonely nights becoming a sanctuary forming desires Turning your head away from an old promise, facing a new one Faraway in another cosmos under a starlight banner A deafening silence too much to bear closes in Sounds of murkiness cave in as crows begin to caw From the raindrops falling on grey cold pavement Where blue ice cut into clouds sparsely scattered Wet on the inside not covered by a roof The gentle tapping driven by the wind's breath Dry on the side that lay below the roofs Looking through the panes, a vacant stare There, on the dry side, slept a homeless elderly man His hands weathered and bleached by nature's curse Lying on used cardboard boxes and covered by layers of them Each day opening his eyes, the struggle to survive begins all over again Has he given up hope for his own society? Or has society abandoned him to the streets? From the coffee dripping into a pot stirring as it freshly brews a warm steam Smell of caffeine fills the air delighting the senses into the cup of memories sharing visions Camouflaging the scent of loneliness mingling with thoughts of happiness There, on the coffee table, sits a poorly dressed elderly woman her hands shaking with the feebleness of age deeply moving Talking loudly to an invisible friend with two places set ghosts from the past appear living always dearly beloved free will Has she cast out hope of opening up to friends? Or have they labeled her as an insecure outcast? From the keyboard typing sounds in an office idle gossip begins the background stage chatter Heat produced by machines blends within substance tattooed underneath a thin veil opens up pages incomplete ink Together with human activities rising high in temperature soars the hustle and bustle begins from trained commands laid down There, on the window side, a nervous working man keeps his head down focused on the job at hand calculating his time how its spent wisely Yielding to all demands and pressure from the top everything in relation to work becomes orders to complete Has he surrendered hope to the ignorant and proud? Or have they trampled on his integrity and strengths? I heard a whisper… Silently calling that 'Hope' was laying asleep At the bottom of Pandora's box collecting dust From the mischief of human actions remained the bleached bones laid bare Slowly rotting away among fallen light of heaven's outcasts Living in agony suppressed by hate of a thousand nightmares The whisper dissipates into a black hole adrift What was once beautiful now turns bitter and sullen a Collaboration by Liam Mc Daid and Angeline Lim i forgot to post in 2017
