Invisible Angels
INVISIBLE ANGELS They were just fingers on the ground searching Scavenging for little scraps, a myriad of foodstuffs that has lost its taste Some very expensive leftovers that just turned into waste Their backs sickle-shaped, living on their knees begging Their faces-their faces can’t be seen, because they are covered in sin Glue bottles glued on their noses Pants hanging from their would have been waists Torn bottoms exposing a pair of soot covered scratched goose bumped bony buttocks Their faces still couldn’t be seen because they were covered in sin Once in a while, a stranger or two stops by for charity A couple plates of food and drinks, with their cameras penned up Announcing to the whole wide world their selfish attempt at altruism For those very few minutes when they act like they mean it I can see their faces Crooked smiles of yellow teeth, beaming hollow eyes and outstretched hands Reaching for a little taste of a paradise they couldn’t have For that split second, everything is right with the world But as the strangers tail lights disappear, so does their faces They go back to their savage ‘livity’ of eating scraps and throwing feces Politicians don’t manifesto them, they don’t vote To keep the city clean, they are not allowed into the CBD Bad publicity it seems They walk in the shadows, the cant be seen because they are covered in sin Sins of their fathers, Sins of theirs leaders Sins of the government and of the country All these burden weighs them down, on their knees every day, fingers scratching, scavenging….. They cant be seen, because they are covered in your sins
