It Happened Again
I stare out a window at yet another dark scene It has happened again, how can this be? Death paid a visit without knocking on the door Gone, gone, like leaves whisked away in a gust of wind Leaving me feeling empty with nothing to hold onto The losses accumulate like freezing snow without warmth Now deaths close in time, one storm after another! Barely a chance to grieve with shock in between Few tears are shed, but not enough to ease heaviness That weighs on my mind like a large boulder Rolling over my simple, beating, fragile heart I question everything that I did and said Right or wrong or maybe not enough I cherish everything that you did for me Sometimes showing gratitude feels like never enough I know you are now certainly without pain But I do not know what to do with mine This sadness is like a dark sky without stars As fear creeps in, my subconscious will consume sleep And bring nightmares that may be worse than this The clock is ticking through silence of a long night The pictures you sent me remain in my mind It wasn't long ago that you were fine! It seems like yesterday, we took a carriage ride Today, you traveled without me Heidi Sands 3/26/22
