Journey To Here
While everything’s still out of synch, A long flight gives one time to think. To take a step back from the brink, Commit the journey’s thoughts to ink. To muse a little more... A final skip across the pond, Returning from the great beyond. The distance makes the heart grow fond; I’d gladly upgrade for the wand That whisks me to my door. And though I’d make the trip again, Seems like forever since I’ve been In Lacey’s Spring, right ‘round the bend With Frances and my daughter Gwen, The grandkids I adore. I think I’ll stay at home a while, Embrace the gravel with a smile, Take Missy for a wooded mile, Find tasks as joys and not as trials, Let God show what’s in store. You cannot go, ‘cuz you’re still here; You cannot leave what you hold dear, And if at first, that seems unclear, When it resolves, then you’ve come near To wisdom at its core. ---------- Third Place Winner for the "Form J - Just Write Me a New Poem" Poetry Contest sponsored by Constance La France written 03/91/2022 I classified this as a tail-rhyme, since it is aaaaf, bbbbf, ccccf, ddddf, eeeef. It is also a quintain, but since the tail is a shorter meter, it seemed be better characterized by that description.
