Ten Rule Rap
(using your best rap rhythm/voice) The first one's kinda simple, and it's very plain to see; There is no other God, no other God but me. The inside scoop, the on-the-level: Those other little g’s are of the devil. Ba-da-bim, ba-da-bam, ba-da-blap-blap-blap! The second one says that I don't want you to make A picture of me: a fish, a bird, a snake. So don't be bowing down to things that you can see, 'Cuz all you're really doing is worshipping the g's. Now when you give me props, I'm expecting you'll be zealous. If you're not into me, I'll be getting rather jealous. If you break this one, curse the children, curse the grands, But I'll bless the generations if you follow this command. The third is where I caution you ‘bout carrying my name; A lot is riding on this one, so don't do it in vain. It's not just all about if you curse or if you swear, But how you bear my image when you go out there. The fourth one's about honoring my Sabbath rest; I know I work you hard, but I also know what's best. Six straight days of work, but then you're through. One to give thanks because I rescued you. Five's about your parents, how to treat your mom and dad; If I catch you being ugly, well, let's say things could go bad. So take care of your elders, and don't throw out the past, And all will go real well, and your time with us might last. For six, you need to understand that there are times to kill. I've even mentioned several reasons not against my will. But murdering is taking life just because you could, Or doing it in anger, or acting in cold blood. Ba-zinga, ba-da-zanga, ba-da-bam, bam, bam! Seven says that marriage is a sacred deal. It's supposed to be forever, not just until you feel That you need a little extra to be spicing up your life. And also, if you're single, don't be chasing someone's wife. Eight's about realizing that I've given you enough, So don't you be a-walking off with other people's stuff. On the flip side, don't be hoggin’, cuz I really don't like greed, So show a little love to a brother in need. Nine's a fancy way of saying that you shouldn't lie, And I know when you're fibbing, so forget the other guy. When you testify in court, when you come before a judge, Just play it true and straight, or I will hold a grudge. Bippety-bip, bippety-blip, bap, bap, blap! Ten's a lot like eight and seven, but I'd best repeat. ‘Cuz coveting gets started when you're bored or incomplete. If coveting's not squelched, (it’s a lust of the mind), Unfaithfulness and theft will come in their due time. Now I know you're going to say, "God, that's sure a lot of rules." It's truly only ten and ignoring me's for fools. What's in between the lines is all the things that you can do; If you honor me this way, it will go well for you. (From Exodus 20)
