Trusting You
The smell of a warm supper in the kitchen, Lights are dim though fully on. Alice in Wonderland tumbles past, A side conversation of cereal relics. A delicate myth, this memory, One of the few still bearing her face. A bar to censor me from my pain, Her eyes obscured in the pixels of my past. The conveniently timed knock, Just as we take our seats. A stranger at the door, Says his name’s Fate. He leaves without a word, And we dismiss him as a lie. But in the night he returns, Will hatred in his hands. A subtle ache, oh so quiet, It lingers in the sleeping veins. No coincidence in the passing, With piles of salt and pain. A puppy’s birth, eaten, Subdued by the Mother-All. A tear without understanding behind it, And another ache to longingly tend. Cauterized by visions behind my broken eyes, My future and my past are a cockled lie. The masks of iron, of soot, of ivory, The tarnished edges upon them all. I worry for the dawning day, Hoping it will bring new hope. Perhaps one day it will, But for now, I’m chilled to the bone. Courtesy, thy nameless fool, To forsake the one who birthed you. And as such, I lie here bleeding, Hoping to lose these memories.
