Regrets of a Dying Day
Consider how the shades of night befall, Shutting out the last of pleasurable delights While regrets of a dying day well up as gall. They linger in the mind as sleep would fall And struggle against each other in fights, Consider how the shades of night befall. One lies waiting for peaceful voices to call The mind searches for well-reasoned insights, While regrets of a dying day well up as gall. Wrestling with one’s mind geared up to stall The moment one turns out the bedside lights, Consider how the shades of night befall. In spite of every effort not to engage recall The mind chooses to review the day’s plights, While regrets of a dying day well up as gall. Before the last yawn, one’s thoughts appall As the spirit soars to unfathomable heights, Consider how the shades of night befall While regrets of a dying day well up as gall. written February 5, 2022
