I Am An African
I am an African Born and brought up in a village with no silver spoon Grew playing with old and tattered bicycle wheels at noon Never to know that when at dusk, darkness will cover the brightness of the sun I play with friends, not all of the same age, with the light from the moon Mother call out, its time to sleep, but on the mat to roll on To the village stream we go, swim and come back with water School? The village school we go to better lives with lots of laughter Coming from school, thought of mother and father using the water From the wooden window, behold the serene that make my village matter One cloth I have after my uniform, happy that it covers the real matter Songs I remember to log into the past of the village champion With axe I cut the woods for cooking porridge with onion Wrestling and dancing, the village champion enjoy to move on Never think of the danger of wrestling without modern medicine to lean on But the herbs, the massage from mama enjoyed the champion I am an African, because I am born to be one Freedom I enjoyed from the ancestor to lead as I move on African I’ll be, never to return to be another race Africa, an African, very proud to be part of the race I live for Africa, the race control by the ancestor’s grace
