Where Is Christmas
Christmas had no idea how she got that name, it was crazy to her. She had a heart of gold, but she was an alley cat, simple and pure. Younger kitties got snapped up by children with happy delight. She got used to this and hid under green dumpsters, out of sight. The coldest night in the world happened and it was terribly bad. Christmas figured it was her last night on earth, but was in no way sad. Life in the alleys was not easy; it was a fight to find lunch or dinner. If she went on to heaven, she figured, she might become a real winner. Some guy in a van put out a box with food, and a soft bed too. It was a trap to catch her, but her running days were through. I don’t care if he kills me, she told the mouse she had just eaten. She felt defeated, deflated, sad, horribly cold, truly quite beaten. She wandered into the box and heard it click with a loud snap. She had an instant of thinking “this makes me sad – crap!” But resigned to her fate, she let the fellow take her away. A year later she is the happiest cat and it is Christmas Day. For this guy named Pete loves cats, had tried to catch her for years. She had been running from him, because of her childlike fears. She had no idea that he was going to give her a home and a tree. Where is Christmas? Grandma said rushing in. Hey! Christmas! That’s me!
