Nativity - What Happened
So let me get this right a bit, Please help me think things through, The Angel of the lord came down, And gave some news to you ? And though you were betrothed to wed, You hadn’t had relations? And then a star came in the east, That lit up many nations? Back then there was a census, To your homeland you must tread, But no room in the inns that night, So stable used instead? And then a new king born right there? A manger for his crib? And swaddling clothes to wrap him in? Too early for a bib! And shepherds looking after sheep, Were out late in the field? Another Angel came to them, And good news was revealed? That’s where the star came into it, Appearing in the East, The shepherds followed and wise men, To join the Christmas feast? To bring him gifts they had back then, Of Frankincense and myrrh? And those who had a bit more wealth, Brought gold that they prefer? It seems a bit far fetched to me, That this tale’s what occurred, But thousands of years later, People still say it’s god’s word. And just because it’s pretty strange, The magic’s not reduced, Let’s think of all that’s happened since, From what was then produced. A baby in a hotel barn, Born very long ago, First Christmas then that’s shaped the rest, So much we still don’t know! But when we wake on Christmas morn, And think how it began, You really do have to believe, So maybe now I can!
